34,000m2 of knowledge and innovation
Eni has had its own research centre since 1985: the Eni Research Centre in San Donato Milanese. In this ultramodern research centre, 290 specialists work every day to develop and test the high-grade engine oils of today and tomorrow.

Located close to Milan, the research centre comprises 34,000m2 of research space, offices, laboratories, test rooms and other facilities. Researchers, technicians and personnel are given the latest scientific tools for scientific research, product development, field tests and innovation.

Staying ahead
The Eni Research Centre plays an important role in our ambition to be and stay ahead. Projects often involve multidisciplinary teams ranging from geosciences to engineering and from chemistry to materials science.

Even more knowledge is gained through collaboration with other Eni research centres and universities and research centres in Italy and across the world. Examples include MIT in Boston and the (engineering) universities of Milan, Turin, Bologna, Naples and Pavia.

Bio engine oils
One of the major focal areas is the development of environmental technologies. This has already led to new technologies to recover polluted land, the world's first biorefinery near Venice and the development of bio engine oils.

The Eni Research Centre is also where technicians and engineers develop and test engine oils, greases and other products for the automotive and industrial markets. This philosophy forms part of an ongoing dialogue between science and industry, which Eni has been pursuing for decades.
