Winter is coming
Winter is approaching quickly, and it is important to prepare your truck for the season. Cold temperatures can significantly affect a truck's performance, causing decreased tyre inflation and poor engine efficiency. Additionally, using de-icing chemicals on the roads can increase the risk of corrosion, making it even more important to prepare for winter conditions.

To ensure optimal performance and safety of your heavy-duty engine, Enilive Benelux advises to perform a few fluid checks:

Cooling fluid check: A comprehensive winterization check should include inspections of the radiator, belts and hoses for potential failures. Moreover, it is important to check the coolant concentration and inhibitor levels before cold weather to ensure proper protection against freezing, boiling, and corrosion. Eni Benelux can offer a wide range of antifreeze products, ideal for use in the most modern vehicles, including very high-powered engines.

Engine oil check: To save engine wear, ensure using a low-temperature performing oil during winter months. In cold weather, your engine may take longer to reach its optimal operating temperature and a proper oil flow, which can cause your engine to run less efficiently. Due to this reason, Enilive Benelux recommends using a high-performing oil in low temperatures to ensure reliable starting and low-temperature fluidity, such as the Eni i-Sigma top MS 5W-30,  the Eni i-Sigma top 5W-30 and Eni i-Sigma Eco Plus 5W-30/20. Please get in touch with your account manager to find out the right oil for your truck during the winter months.

Transmission fluid check is an important part of transmission service winter care. Manual transmissions suffer cold-induced transmission performance issues more frequently than their automatic counterparts. Similarly to lubricating oil, transmission fluid thickens in the cold. Due to this thickening, manual transmission synchronizers cannot spin at the required speed, which impacts proper flow and protection. Therefore, Eni advises using transmission fluids suitable for low-temperature conditions. Contact your account manager to learn which transmission oil is best for your truck.

Brake fluid check:  During winter, roads are often dangerous due to wet, icy conditions. Therefore, your brakes must be in perfect condition. We recommend having your brake pads, rotors, and brake fluid checked regularly. Over time, brake fluid can become contaminated. Because brake fluid attracts and absorbs water (hygroscopic), its quality decreases over time as the percentage of water in the fluid becomes too high. Old or dirty brake fluid leads to a reduction in braking efficiency of up to 90%, which can be very concerning, especially in colder temperatures. Therefore, checking and refilling brake fluid is advised. We recommend you check the brake fluid before the cold season; in addition to the manufacturer's prescribed change interval.
