Propylene is a colorless and extremely flammable gas. It is the C3 olefin hydrocarbon obtained at the catalytic cracking facilities at Sannazzaro and Milazzo refineries when fuels, including naphtha and LPG (liquefied petroleum gas), are thermally cracked.
Since it is the raw material for the production through a polymerization process, of polypropylene polymer, propylene-ethylene copolymer, propylene oxide, which is then used as a raw material in numerous crucial production processes, and other chemicals like propylene glycol, acrylic acid, acrylonitrile, and butyraldehyde, it is one of the most significant chemicals in the industry. It is advised that industrial applications be used.
Propylene's use differs according to its level of purity. Since the propylene concentration is greater than 99.5%, the Propylene Polymer Grade produced at Eni Sannazzaro Refinery has an extremely high purity grade (the impurities can include carbon dioxide, ethane, and propane). The product of Milazzo Refinery has a purity of at least 97% and is primarily employed as a reagent in the production of cumene and isopropyl alcohol. The propylene Chemical grade is made up of a mixture with a minimum propylene content of 90–96%. It is used as a refrigerant as well.
While Milazzo's product is delivered by vessel, Sannazzaro's product is only delivered by rail tankers. For SPECIFICATIONS of Polymer and Chemical Grade please send a message to: paolo.pisanti@enilive.com.
